We're on a Mission

(and we want you to join us)

At The Talk Toolbox, we’re on a mission to provide age-appropriate, ongoing sex education that blends play + science. We’re here to empower parents and children to speak openly about sexual health, bodily functions, consent, and relationships.

We’ve created a quarterly sex ed subscription service with quarterly conversation-starting boxes sent right to your doorstep!

Because of the nature of our work — and, let’s be honest, how taboo sex ed can be — we know you might have some questions. Here are some of the most common ones we get. If you have another question you’d like to ask, you can contact us!

Commonly asked questions about sex ed

(& The Talk Toolbox!)

Do you have a Talk Toolbox sex ed subscription for my child’s age range?

We currently have three subscription boxes to choose from: 4-7 years old, 8-10 years old, and 11-13 years old!
And look out for our 14-16 years old in 2027!

What topics are covered in your Talk Toolbox for kids ages 8-10?

Age-appropriate content is everything to us. Too much too soon can be overwhelming, but waiting too long can leave kids confused or misinformed—so we focus on meeting kids right where they are.

We cover many of the same core topics across all age groups—like bodies, boundaries, relationships, and media—but the way we teach them grows with your child.

For example, media literacy for ages 4–7 might focus on real vs. pretend, while older kids explore social media and eventually more complex topics like porn literacy.

It’s all about building understanding gradually—through small, natural conversations that feel manageable, not scary.

Is The Talk Toolbox led by education experts? Are you qualified to teach sex ed?

The Talk Toolbox content is designed by Dr. Kristen Mark. She is the Director of Education in the Institute for Sexual and Gender Health at the University of Minnesota and she has nearly two decades of experience in the sex education.

Are you run by any religious or political organizations?

We are completely unaffiliated and self-funded. This means that all resources we share inside and outside of our subscription boxes are based on peer-reviewed and educationally sound principles.

We are also fully transparent in how we source items for our subscription boxes. Should there ever be a concern with the source of our items, we ask that you email contact@thetalktoolbox.com.

What is your goal with your sex education resources?

Our goal is to change the face of sex education in this country, one family at a time. Imagine what’s possible when we have entire generations of empowered, sexually- informed parents and children!

Our sole motivator is to equip children with a better understanding of their bodies, their sexual health, and their relationships. With better sex education, we believe our youth can help eradicate rape culture and sexual shame in the U.S.

What kind of interactive activities or resources are included in the subscription?

Every 3 months, you’ll receive a new book, activity, sticker, and toy. Activities are designed in-house and range from puzzles, crosswords, diagrams, worksheets, coloring book pages, and more. The stickers and toys also differ every month.

These quarterly subscription boxes are a labor of love, and we often don’t know what will go inside each box until we start doing research on books and activities! That’s half the fun for us — and for your family!

Do you have a Talk Toolbox for educators or school districts?

We are happy to work with educators and/or school districts to provide quarterly boxes for you and your students. Please email us at contact@thetalktoolbox.com. to discuss options and to determine if our boxes are right for you.

How often will we receive a new Toolbox?

New boxes are shipped every 3 months! As long as you’re subscribed and your payment has been processed, you’ll receive your box on time.

Of course, we aren’t in charge of what happens once these boxes are shipped! We have tracking numbers for every box, but delays and damage can happen once they are in the “custody” of our mail carriers. If you have any concerns about your subscription box’s delivery, please refer to your shipment announcement email. It will have all your tracking information! If you need further support, reach out to us at contact@talktoolbox.com.

If I buy a year-long sex ed subscription box but my child reaches a new “age group,” can I swap my subscription to the older age tier?

First of all, thank you for purchasing your year-long subscription! We’re a small business, and your support means the world. Second, of course! Just enter your child's birthdate at purchase and we'll take care of the rest.
As soon as your child hits the new age group, we’ll update their subscription on our end!

Are Talk Toolbox resources mostly for kids? How involved will I be as the parent?

Let’s be honest: We can all stand to learn more about our bodies, sexual health, and our relationships. We’ve heard parents say they wish they had these boxes when they were kids because they learn so much!

But to answer your question, our sex ed subscription boxes are for both the parent and their child. These are not meant to be “solo” activities for your child. Read the books together, do the activities together, and have fun with the other goodies packed into the box. Most of all, continue the conversation throughout the month!

Do you address sensitive topics such as consent or sexual assault?

Consent is one of the first concepts a child can reasonably be introduced to! Yes, that’s a mainstay in our resources, starting as young as age 3.

As for discussing themes of sexual assault and rape, we will likely cover those topics starting in the 11- to 13-year-old age range. This is because we are committed to using clear language that empowers your kids to understand the topics we’re introducing, and we want to make sure that they are developmentally ready for those discussions.

Of course, early discussions of consent are vital here and build to higher age-level discussions about what happens when someone violates your consent.

What if I have multiple children in different age groups? Which subscription should I get?

First of all, we hope you’re maintaining your sanity with a brood like that! Second, we generally recommend starting with the youngest age group subscription box. This way, your youngest child won’t be introduced to themes that they aren’t ready for yet, and you can set a foundation with your older child(ren) so that everyone in the family has the same vocabulary.

Of course, if your children have a much larger age gap and you want to make sure your older children have the support they need, you can choose the older age subscription box. Just plan to spend time 1:1 with your older children!

We’d also love to make multiple boxes more accessible for your family. If you book two age subscriptions, we can offer you a 10% discount on each month! Just apply code MOREKIDS10 at checkout.

Are there any live sessions or one-on-one consultations available?

There are no live learning opportunities or coaching available. However, we share free resources on our blog and our Instagram account!

What is the cost of the subscription? Are there any other costs?

Each box costs $50/quarter. Shipping is included! There are no other costs associated with your subscription.

Should you choose to cancel your subscription through our shop page, we have a 30-day cancellation policy. Depending on when you cancel your subscription, you may be billed once more before.

Can I preview the materials before signing up for a subscription?

Every 3 months, there are different resources mailed inside your box. However, you can take a peek inside our first-ever box for our 8- to 10-year-old age group

Is there a trial period or a money-back guarantee if we are not satisfied?

We do not offer trial periods or refunds. However, you can cancel your subscription at any time through our shop page!

Note: We have a 30-day cancellation policy.
